1) Play a game of cricket at the hotel. Based on their duty schedules, the hotel staff will
gladly join in. The hotel will provide the bats, balls and wickets. If you don’t know the
game, please ask your butler. He will be happy to help in giving a crash course on cricket.
2) Learn how to play carrom. Carrom is a game of Indian origin that is widely popular in
South Asia. It is one of the key pastimes of local villagers. Your butler will teach you the
rules of play. After you get the hang of it, it becomes quite easy. Just think of it as playing
pool with your fingertips.
3) Kites and lantern making is something very Sri Lankan. The months of August and
September are known as the kite flyers’ months, when hundreds of local kids fly their kites
in the open fields of Sri Lanka. You will get together with your host and learn the art one
on-one. After it’s done, we set flight to colourful kites in the open fields of the hotel.
Alternatively, you can make paper lanterns and display them at night outside of your room.
