There is nothing more special than visiting a destination and engaging in its deep rooted culture: its traditions. Sri Lanka is a proud Buddhist nation and its people have countless traditions embedded around this doctrine. One such tradition is known as an alms giving ceremony.
Alms giving is a sacred tradition that has been a part and parcel of Sri Lankan culture from time immemorial. Monks only have two meals a day. One in the morning and the last one before 12 noon. Thereafter they engage in their spirituality and meditation. They only have some fruits during dinner time. Therefore, presenting the monks with their last main meal for the day is considered to be a blessing.
After the alms giving, you can spend some time with the monks having a casual chat before retreating to the hotel for lunch.
